Uncertain waiting times
Passengers may wait without reliable, current information about their bus's location or expected arrival.
School transport tracking for Tanzania
Know where the school bus is. Pitia is developing a platform to help parents, schools and school-bus operators stay better informed about the journey.
Pitia is in development; tracking and arrival details shown are illustrative, not live.
About Pitia
Pitia is a Tanzanian transport technology initiative working to make everyday travel more informed, convenient and connected.
We are developing a digital platform that helps people access information about buses and their journeys. From a parent waiting for a school bus to a worker waiting for public transport, Pitia aims to reduce uncertainty by making vehicle location and journey information easier to access.
To make transport information more accessible, improve communication between passengers and transport providers, and support the digital transformation of Tanzania's transport sector.
The challenge
Passengers and families may have limited information about where a bus is, whether it is approaching, or when it is likely to arrive. Pitia aims to help close that information gap.
Passengers may wait without reliable, current information about their bus's location or expected arrival.
Parents may have difficulty knowing the progress of a school bus and when their children are likely to arrive.
Operators and institutions need better tools to monitor vehicles, coordinate journeys and communicate with passengers.
Our solutions
Pitia is being designed to support different passenger and fleet needs as the platform develops.
Help parents and schools access bus location information and, where supported, arrival notifications.
For schools, parents and school transport providers.
Help commuters access bus location and estimated arrival information to plan journeys with greater confidence.
For passengers and public bus operators.
Support organizations that provide transport for employees, students and other groups.
For employers and institutions.
Support vehicle visibility, route monitoring and operational planning as features are introduced.
For fleet owners and transport managers. These are intended service areas. Features will be introduced as development and pilot testing progress.
How it works
A simple overview of the intended experience.
A compatible GPS tracker or supported mobile solution provides location data from an enrolled vehicle.
The platform receives and processes vehicle data so relevant information can be shared with authorized users.
Users can view available vehicle information and, where implemented, receive arrival updates.
Authorized providers can use fleet information to support route monitoring, communication and operational decisions.
Why Pitia
Make vehicle location information easier for passengers and transport providers to access.
Build a practical experience for people who need transport information on everyday devices.
Develop with Tanzanian passengers, schools, institutions and transport operators in mind.
Aim to protect personal information through appropriate access controls and responsible handling of location data.
Start with practical pilot projects and progressively expand to more routes, vehicles and transport services.
